Having been forced to use this style toilet in the past for an extended period, I can’t say that I was looking forward to the next 6 months spent living in our apartment. Especially as my body adjusts to a new country and diet! As soon as we moved in I spent a lot of time thinking of how this situation could be remedied. Luckily, someone beat me to it, and we found this handy little beauty at Wal-Mart.

It serves its purpose admirably, and for those of us not born in a country that uses ’squatties’, it saves our feet, ankles, legs, knees, backs, dignities, and in some cases mobile-phones and other pocket-dwelling-paraphenalia. It’s a life-saver!
In other news, we had an 83% solar eclipse yesterday, as can be seen in this photo that I took when the eclipse was at its most eclipsed:

Nice one
Is that the shower almost over the toilet? I’d so fall down the hole when I had shampoo in my eyes.

it may just be me, but I can’t see any eclipse in your photo…

@Verba – Yes, to have a shower you pretty much have to stand in the toilet. You can kind of point the shower head to one side and stand between the toilet and the sink. Overall, not the best bathroom I’ve ever used.

@Toby – are you using your solar filter? Looking at the eclipse with your naked eyes can be harmful!

You are really lucky to get one of this and not a hole in the ground. You just need strong knees so that you can stand up afterward.
And you will still find them in France and Japan.
